The Founder
Lisa Li Urbonya, President of Action Language Learning, is a certified principal and curriculum director who lived in China for 12 years where she learned first- hand about the Chinese educational system, the culture and the language. She had access to many Chinese private, public and international schools as an administrator, teacher and parent. Her experiences as a linguist immersed in a second language provided insight to language learning that she now applies to administration and curriculum. Lisa Li developed Action Language Learning with the goal of globalizing educational efforts and connecting world language enthusiasts to an innovative way of teaching and learning which can now be provided for world language programs.
Lisa has worked with preschool through University Mandarin and English as a Second Language programs where she developed musical and multi-sensory teaching programs. She has served as a Chinese language director at Middlebury-Monterey Language Academy; a Chinese language teacher at the International School of Beijing and as a founding director of Madison Lakeside Language School. In addition, Lisa has worked as a bilingual/ESOL educational specialist at the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction assisting school districts in their quest for improving academic programs for English Language Learners and assimilating ELL students into American schools. Lisa has also taught language method classes to Hochunk and other world language teachers of Spanish, French, German and Japanese. She has traveled worldwide to coach world language teachers, administrators. and parents and is currently writing both Mandarin and English language curriculum that can be used with a musical program which can be integrated into subject areas.
